TAKE A STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE

Originally settled by German immigrants in the early 1800's, Old World Third Street has worked hard to preserve its distinct European ambience.

Colorfully-painted shutters, German-style half-timber buildings, European clocks and towers-all remain much the same as they did around the turn of the century...authentic in every detail.

From Victorian Gothic to Italianate to Romanesque, Old World Third Street reveals a unique blend of architectural styles- each with a character all its own.

The Names that made Milwaukee Famous

From 1850 to 1900, life in Milwaukee pretty much revolved around Old World Third Street.

And such legendary names as Fred Usinger, Joseph Schiltz and August Uihlein were making Milwaukee famous.

Oftentimes the enticing aroma of German and Polish smoked wursts and sausages filled the air for city blocks. Folks would come from miles around to sample and purchase Fred Usinger’s famous sausages.

Milwaukee beer also became the talk of the nation during the mid-19th century. Just down the road from Old World Third Street, scores of family-owned breweries sprouted up along what would become known as “Brewers Row.”
